Greater Sylhet Development & Welfare Council in UK

Greater Sylhet Development and Welfare Council (GSC) in UK is a voluntary and nationwide charity organisation established in 1993, working for the welfare of Sylheti Bangladeshi people living in the UK. The organisation is run by an elected National Executive Committee and is governed by a constitution. GSC has twelve regional committees and ten Branches.

Up to 95% of Bangladeshis living in the United Kingdom either originate or come from the Greater Sylhet Region (Sylhet, Maulvi Bazar, Habi Ganj and Sunam Ganj) of Bangladesh. The people of Sylhet have made great contributions to the construction of their homeland (Bangladesh), as well as towards the present multi-racial British society and have a natural link with Greater Sylhet and thus, they always extend their helping hands for any cause be it for the struggle for liberation as it was in 1971 or for helping Bangladesh as a whole in calamities like cyclone or floods.

Despite such a record or contribution and devotion, it is said that the community and its region back in Bangladesh faced multiple deprivation in all aspects of life. In the United Kingdom, this community is the most disadvantaged in housing, social conditions and employment and education sectors, hence the creation of the Greater Sylhet Development and Welfare Council in the UK.
