Mother Tongue Classes

We have been running the Bengali Mother Tongue Classes every Friday 5.00pm to 7.00pm. The classes are run by two tutors. An average 20 students are regularly attending the class and all of them are from the age group 5 - 15 years.

The main aim of this class is to develop the speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in Bengali, using different learning activities. The children are given class tests, performance reviews and also get involved with various Bengali Cultural Activities.

We have made major progress in improving the children’s skills and need of more support and are in need of more resource materials.

Saturday Homework Club

The Homework Club has been successfully running for 5 years and is a highly valued club. The club is open for all the children in the community from 11.30am – 1.30pm, term time only.

We have 18 children on roll, who attended the club since March 2005. All the children are Bangladeshi, from the local area and attending the local Primary and Secondary Schools.

The Club is run by two tutors, one focuses on children within KS1 and the other focuses on those KS2 and above. Children between the ages 6 - 14 years benefit from our classes. The children and their parents alike feel that the club has and still continues to enhance their children’s Literacy and Numeracy skills as well as providing homework support. The Children are given a break in between sessions for 15 minutes in the local park with supervision.

The club supports children with their school homework, and those set by their personnel home tutors. We also provide literacy and numeracy activities to those who don’t have homework to complete.
